This teether is very simple. It's the perfect size and shape for small hands, and it doesn't include any extraneous parts that could get in the way of its main purpose. My brother's baby loves this toy and seems to prefer gumming it over his other, more complicated and flashy teethers. I like that its phthalate-free and BPA-free.

Avent categorizes its teethers into three groups: Stage 1, stage 2, and stage 3. This is a stage 1 teether, which Avent describes as "Front teeth: Massages gums and suitable for sterilization." Stage 2 is for middle teeth, and stage 3 is for back teeth. Basically, stage 1 is for the earliest stage and is appropriate for small babies. All in all, a good product from a reputable company.

I bought this feeder without having much hope that my boy will ever use it. But I was positively surprised when I first gave it to him with a strawberry inside - he was playing with it for 20 minutes while we went for a walk. This is a nice feeder and what I like the most about it is that it has a lid! What a great invention. Because if you put a slice of a peach in it the juice will be all over your bag before you'd ever have a chance to give it to your baby. ... and remember to take a bib with you if you go for a walk and feed your darling on the way!

My 8month old is a drooling machine. He chews on everything he can get his little hands on... or he did until I got him this teether. I clip this on him with a bella tonno pacifier clip and he has it handy whenever he wants it. This has even made diaper changes easier,it distracts him long enough to get the job done. When my son's teeth came in at 3 months, this was the only teether his little hands could grasp. Sophie was a life saver in those early months and even at 10 months she is still a favorite. We stopped bring her to play group because all the children fight over her. I can't count how many adults have stopped and commented about Sophie. True she is just a simple, almost silly-looking, rubber giraffe, but there is something timeless about her. We couldn't live without this toy.

I think a lot of people are exaggerating when they say that they've found their kids "turning blue" from choking on a leg. This is a very popular item at my new Mommies group....everyone seems to have one. Since it came so highly recommended, I decided to purchase one. It is really the only teething toy your baby will use. My son loves the squeaky body, and can easily put the nose and feet in his mouth. He can grab it, and it fits easily into his small mouth. (He is only three months old...an early teether.) It is expensive, but if you figure you won't have to buy dozens of other teethers that may or may not work, the expense makes sense. I don't go anywhere without Sophie.

Sophie is VERY well loved in our house. She's played with frequently by our 10 month old and has been for many months now. Our five year old often uses Sophie to interact with his little sister or to distract her from his toys. She's well made, adorable and gets many compliments.

That said, I use her with some reservation, b/c she's made from natural rubber. On one hand, no synthetic toxins!! However, the more a person is exposed to latex/rubber, the more likely they are to become allergic to it. And, a latex allergy is a lifelong issue, as it's such a common substance. A baby spends a lot of time sucking and chewing on a toy like this and the potential for allergies does concern me. The same goes for pacifiers and bottle nipples (if you need them,) mattresses, etc. made of rubber/latex.

I have a love/hate relationship with Sophie (or any of the similar Vulli toys,) I suppose.

I had one of these when I was a child, and bought one for my son. He LOVES it!! The first moment out of the package he was reaching for it. Now he chews on it all the time. The giraffe is made of soft plyable rubber that bends easy but doesn't tear/rip. It is perfect for little hands to grab onto. It wipes clean with a wet cloth or baby wipe.
