I ordered Sophie when my son was about 5 months old. At first he really didn't care for her, but once he actually started getting teeth (6 1/2 months) he loved the thing. He loves chewing on her feet and swinging her around to make her squeak! I think it was worth spending the extra $$ for this teether.

When my son's teeth came in at 3 months, this was the only teether his little hands could grasp. Sophie was a life saver in those early months and even at 10 months she is still a favorite. We stopped bring her to play group because all the children fight over her. I can't count how many adults have stopped and commented about Sophie. True she is just a simple, almost silly-looking, rubber giraffe, but there is something timeless about her. We couldn't live without this toy.

There's something so sweet and charming about this teething toy. My grandkids love it; her long neck fits securely in their hands and her face has such a sweet look. And she's safe to chew on (pretty important for a teether!). I would give this five stars except for the price - over $19 for a teething toy is pretty expensive!

This is a very popular item at my new Mommies group....everyone seems to have one. Since it came so highly recommended, I decided to purchase one. It is really the only teething toy your baby will use. My son loves the squeaky body, and can easily put the nose and feet in his mouth. He can grab it, and it fits easily into his small mouth. (He is only three months old...an early teether.) It is expensive, but if you figure you won't have to buy dozens of other teethers that may or may not work, the expense makes sense. I don't go anywhere without Sophie.

This giraffe was a bit disappointing straight out of the box.I had no idea it squeaked; it does come across as a dog toy. Our dog did run over and still eyes the toy across the room waiting to make her move...

That being said, our daughter didn't have a lot of interest in this toy until she began teething. I thought the squeaking would be annoying, but really she never squeaks it. The legs are perfect size for her hands to grab. Its light weight enough for her to pass,hold, and control.

It is definitely a supervision only toy. In our case, our daughter likes us to hold it for her (even though she can grasp it well). This gives her more concentration on gnawing ;). (I can see how the limbs could go far into the mouth...which probably feels great when getting those back teeth. I could see how they may go back too far however, and would urge people to read the other reviews.)

That being said, our girl loves to stare and grab this giraffe. The colors are great. As for the rubbery smell other people have mentioned....it IS rubber. Rubber has a distinct smell and if you don't like it, then you shouldn't buy rubber.

I really had my doubts but my 5month old son LOVES this toy!! When I opened the package I was a little set back I thought that Sophie would be a little bigger. It is a dog toy for all intents and purposes but one that my son loves soooo it's worth it. I did read the reviews on the "choking hazard" I would like to say that it could be a GAGGING hazard but that is a HUGE difference between gagging and choking! And despite this my son gags on his own fingers so it's not exactly a danger. If they gag they pull it out of their mouth. I don't think sophie is a huge danger. It's a little overpriced but then again I don't buy many toys for a baby...rattles, a chew toy here and there but nothing expensive to I figure if he loves it then it's worth it!

When my daughter first asked for this giraffe for her baby girl, I thought she was out of her mind. Now I'm a huge fan! Sophie is made in France (not scary China), and so she can teethe to her heart's content. Plus Sophie is cute and different---but not unique: everyone seems to have one!
